IT infrastructure for Russian Helicopters' new office in Moscow

Project goals

Russian Helicopters holding company (a subsidiary of United Industrial Corporation Oboronprom which is part of Rostec state corporation) has an 85% share of the Russian helicopter market and 14% of global helicopter sales.

Until recently, the management of the holding company was located in Moscow on Presnenskiy Val. However, the company's dynamic growth as well as its need to control its 13 locations from a single center meant that it was necessary to expand the office's physical area and build up the amount of technological infrastructure.

A site in the Moscow World Trade Center, a 29-story first-class office building on Krasnopresnenskaya Embankment, was chosen as the location of the company's new headquarters.

Description of the project

The following blocks of infrastructure were completed as part of the project:

  • Sturdy construction of raised floors
  • Powerful network infrastructure:
    • Cable network using Systimax and Extron equipment
    • Local area network based on Cisco equipment

The office's network and all IT services were integrated with the National Helicopter Center in the urban-type settlement of Tomilino and with the office on Presnenskiy Val.

    • Corporate telephone network using Cisco solutions

The telephone network was meant to support a number of unique scenarios and allow for telephone conversations between the company's top brass no matter how many people were participating in the conference calls, where they were located, or the devices they used to connect.

  • Centralized monitoring system to ensure the smooth functioning of technical systems, individual servers, and racks

Designing and installing low-current networks using multimedia systems have made it possible to create, save and play back audio and video content in high definition.

The design and installation, as well as the project's start-up and commissioning phase, were completed in 3.5 months.

There must be enough space at the rented site for over 200 of the company's top management and various administrative divisions of Russian Helicopters.

We wanted to have a representative office in Moscow which would meet all of our company's requirements for a central office. In addition to automated maintenance systems and a 24-hour video surveillance system monitoring access to the building, we needed to create powerful infrastructure which would be integrated into our company's interoffice IT landscape. In other words, it was necessary to connect the technology used at all of our production facilities and both of our Moscow offices. This turned out to be a rather difficult task because the systems, equipment, and software used at the various locations of Russian Helicopters were completely different and some of our production facilities use our own unique software. Nonetheless, the Asteros team handled the job well; they trained our staff and had the office ready within the required time frame.
